Pitti Uomo concludes with signs of recovery:
buyer attendance up 6.5%,
foreign visitors up more than 12%
It’s just a few hours to closing time for the 78th edition of Pitti Uomo and of Pitti W n.6 and we are receiving strong signals from the Fortezza da Basso that the recovery is here, and that during the past few days here in Florence the international fashion community has heard them clearly.
The exhibitors who decided to preview their new collections and projects (1,047 collections in all – an unprecedented record for Pitti Uomo and Pitti_W) said so too, but above all, it’s the numbers that say the most. Our estimates tell us that the final figures for this edition should be:
a total of approximately 19,200 buyers,
+ 6.5 % compared to June 2009
6,900 foreign buyers (+ 12%),
12,300 Italian buyers (+ 3%)
more than 32,000 visitors overall
The figures, the business contacts, the opinions we heard, and international media attention add up to a good dose of confidence, especially for the Italian fashion, accessory and lifestyle industries that are the main players at this Florence fair and have always been strongly export-oriented.
The data on foreign buyers are another important signal of how the international markets are approaching a recovery. Buyer turnout from all the major foreign markets has risen, with Germany in first place in absolute terms and replicating its June 2009 performance. Double digit increases for Spain (+ 16%), Great Britain (+ 34%), United States (+ 13%), Russia (+ 40%), China and Hong Kong, Korea, Turkey, Belgium, and Austria; while the number of buyers from Japan, France and Holland rose by single figures; and there noteworthy increases on the parts of Canada, Sweden, Norway, Ukraine, Brazil, Middle Eastern countries and many new markets.
